Today I decided to jump in my version 1.1.4 to the recently released 2.2. My iPhone 2G is the first that came in the U.S. and purchased through eBay. Just get my hands did the jailbreak and freed, but not updated to version 1.1.4 as recently as four months.
With the arrival of the new iPhone 3G and firmware 2.0 , I was about to leap by new and exciting features that brought (though the GPS is not compatible with iPhone 2G) but decided to wait to upgrade to later versions for several that the firm straps as smooth as possible.
After several versions of firmaware 2.0, today I decided to install the 2.2 and is much easier than in previous versions.
Steps to take before you begin:
I advise to back up (backup) of your files and settings, we will not have to re-configure almost anything once upgraded to the new version.
- To perform the backup I recommend using a very good software, IPhone PC Suite (there are many more programs.) Not only can you make backups, but also add new ringtones, modify the calendar, change the screen, save messages, etc. You can download it here . IMPORTANT: After you install the program needs to be updated to the latest version or not recognize the iPhone.
- To perform the jailbreak again upgrade to version 2.2, we will use the new version of QuickPwn 2.2 ( Mac and Win ). Yes we have a version earlier than 2.0 will also have to download bootloaders (3.9 and 4.6) to flash the baseband.
- We also take a hard drive the latest version of iPhone 2.2 Firmware (link wrong see note at end of post!)
- Finally, download and install the latest version of iTunes (8.3)
Guide iPhone upgrade to firmware 2.2 (2G) for Windows:
NOTE: Only tested on Windows iPhone 2G (not 3G)
- Plug the iPhone via USB and started iTunes.
- Restore the iPhone with the restore button from any version (1.1.2 to 2.1). Press the reset button while you press the Shift key. It will bring up a window where we find the 2.2 firmware downloaded to your computer.
- We let the process finish and install the new version of firmware. Once finished close iTunes.
- We ran QuickPwn (iPhone always connected via USB).
- The program will detect if you use iPhone or iPod and the version we had installed.
- On the next screen we select the firmware you just installed and select your hard disk.
- Check if everything is correct and let us move to the next screen.
- On the next screen mark the options to install: Cydia , Installer, Unlock and if we change the boot and recovery logos (not required mark)
- We ask you to select the two versions of bootloader to perform later in the flash jailbrokeo baseband. Only needs to search your hard drive and upload them paying attention to correctly select the correct version for each (3.9 and 4.9)
- This part of the process is interactive and we must be careful to follow the instructions correctly. If nothing happens we were wrong because we can start again. The program will put the iPhone in recovery mode automatically, then we must follow the instructions: Click on Home for 5 seconds, then press and hold Home + Power 10 seconds, release Power and continue to hold Home for 10 seconds.
- Finally jailbrokeo begin the process of automatically and already we are ready to begin using the new version.
It only remains for you to rerun the program iPhone PC Suite (which you should be updated to the latest version) and restore your previous configuration.

You should have no trouble upgrading to 2.2 from 1.1.4 if you follow the directions of the fabulous tutorial that has developed juanfer. The only problem might be the firmware version you use.
