For some it will be the big question, for others nothing new, but because of my past experiences, I would like to share some things that I can be useful.
A few months ago I bought a laptop pretty decent: Core Duo 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Geforce 9500, Full HD, BlueRay ... At first glance was the best money I could find on the market. He had only one problem: Windows Vista installed.
The wonderful experience of Vista did not last even a day. The next day I was only thinking of buying the powerful allure of the command format C:
Another issue that bothered me was the theft of hard disk space of about 15G. Manufacturers often put in two hidden partitions the operating system, utilities and drivers so that you can reinstall everything so "simple."
My first step was to compile the drivers from the laptop. For this I went to the ACER site, I selected my team and ooh Surprise, only gave support for Windows Vista, why think of them?
At that precise moment and with the new computer out of the box gave me some qualms myself to experiment, and that he was not sure I would work the sound, wifi and other components at full capacity. So I might fear to suffer in silence and kept as a computer with such a power is coming down every now and then because of a painful OS.
It was then that I decided to install Ubuntu and the sun came out again, everything was perfect (not before fighting with some configurations) until the day I returned to swell the very, pardon the expression.
My relationship with Ubuntu is perfect, I can not complain, but I have a vice that I can play. So every time I wanted to play had to reboot with Vista and suffer their bottlenecks and consequent problems in games. Final decision: reformat everything and install XP.
The steps to follow:
Before starting to explain that it should return to a previous operating system is not ideal and even less so having to use older drivers, but Windows Vista can not stand ... For me the performance increase going back to XP has been dramatic, but everyone should evaluate your choice.
The first step would be to try to collect the drivers from your laptop if the manufacturer offers support to XP from your website. In my case it was not possible and certainly is a trend in 90% of manufacturers with new laptops. Solution: sailing and surfing forums and blogs until you find a case similar to yours and ensure stability with these drivers. In general, models tend to run versions prior to yours. But it depends on each case and model. Another option is to identify the hardware for each device and enter the manufacturer's website to get the compatible driver (Nvidia, ATI, Realtek ..)
Once we have the basic drivers (network drivers, sound, screen ...) and can enter the BIOS of the laptop to boot from the CD and install XP. Here you will find the first surprise trip to Vista for a while ...
Observe that when starting the installation of XP can not find the hard drive, since all new laptops bring disks SATA , when Windows XP came out did not exist and therefore does not recognize. It is not new and many of you will know if you happened to a desktop computer.
The solution was simple desktop, burn the drivers on a floppy and install them at the beginning of the installation by pressing F6. Solution archaic but functioning well. The problem is that today, and as usual, do not bring portable drive. Solution: create a custom installation disc for XP.
When you create a custom disc can do absolutely anything we want: remove all programillas, games and services that interest us not installed by default, to enter all data related to time zone, serial number, key manager, etc. and be able to perform an unattended installation. In addition, we introduce to be installed during the XP service packs and of course get the drivers for Windows XP can recognize our SATA disk.
Process of creating custom installation disc for Windows XP:
1. We got the program nLite and installed.
2. We must be installed. NetFramework (quite common to have, but down from Microsoft or another page. Google is our friend)
3. Create Folder on your hard drive where they poured all the contents of the XP installation CD.

4. Download Service Packs 2 and 3 of XP (if we want / optional)
5. Create two folders within the anterior (dump XP) if you want to install directly Services Packs 2 and 3 of XP. Use as name Sp2 - Sp3.
6. To download the drivers compatible with our SATA drive will have to access the page of the manufacturer of our plate. You can use any program to find out that we board. Here I leave an option.
7. Once identified, the board will have to download drivers Serial-ATA controller on the motherboard from the manufacturer's website.
8. Unzip the zip file if you are in a folder.
9. To begin the process click on the executable nLite on the desktop and you will get the welcome screen, which will select the language.
10. In the next step, we must tell the program where XP folder is located and where we dump the contents of the CD (press "Search" and "Next")
11. Then get to the menu screen where you can choose what we want to integrate into our custom disk.
12. The first option we see is that of integrating service packs. If we integrate by clicking on the box and give us the option to download them directly from the Internet if we are connected. If you have downloaded and choose the option "select Service Pack for Integration" select link we must find the appropriate folder.
13. The next menu item is "Critical Updates and Joint Updates" we can spend doing nothing.
14. "Integrate Drivers" is the next option and the one that interests us here because we'll enter the drivers for XP to recognize SATA hard disk in our installation.
15. Insert puncture and mark the option "multiple drivers folder" just in case.
16. We opened window and select all files in the folder where you've unpacked the drivers of our serial ATA controller.
17. The next window can be the most mischievous of the whole process. Select the option "Text Mode Controller", click on the driver that refers to our case. Notice that parentheses difference between "Mobile" and "Desktop" depending on whether one laptop or desktop. To continue click "Next."
18. We return to the menu and we found the following recommended but not necessary: "Remove Components" and "Unattended Installation"
19. In the "Remove Components" you can remove the XP install games and other applications that you want to install us, but this is a personal matter.
20. In "Unattended Installation" you can get the serial number of your copy, time zone, etc to keep them front of your computer that the whole procedure. The setup is intuitive.
21. The following menu options are not important, but you can keep an eye on if you are useful.
22. Finally apply all changes to our custom CD and we will burn it as bootable CD.
23. The recording options we leave them as default go in the "Create bootable ISO"
24. We can only record the image generated by Nero or any other program.
Once we have customized installation image, and can boot from the CD and if all went well recognize your hard drive. The following are the usual steps of an installation to use. Just wait and see if the drivers that we have got out of sound, wifi, etc. are compatible with our laptop and XP ... that's another battle, but hopefully everything will go well and you get an operating system far more productive relation to the current hardware.

Thank you for your practical guide, I'll aa try, I hope fucniones me, because finding the sata drivers from my notebook which is amd, I think it will not be easy, this one question? sebaja only sata drivers to install the XP or something else is lowered further to work for your reply thanks.
